Spreading the Word About Hearing Health

At Family Hearing, nothing’s more important to us than helping people improve connections to their loved ones and the world. So it’s exciting to get a little ink in not just one but two media outlets, helping us spread the word about the power of better hearing.

Our own Jennifer La Borde, B.A., BC-HIS, Board-Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist and Owner of the practice, and Georgianna Hearne, Au.D., CCC-A, a Doctor of Audiology on our team, are in the news. And we want to tell you all about it!

Boulder Valley 40 Under Forty Recognition

Jennifer was recently named a Boulder Valley 40 Under Forty 2022 honoree by BizWest Media, a  business-news outlet covering Colorado’s Boulder, Broomfield, Larimer, and Weld counties. The honor recognizes those impacting “their communities through professional success and volunteer activities.”

You may already know that Jennifer’s interest in hearing health started in high school. She took her first American Sign Language class and was well on her way. Since those earlier days, she has helped hundreds of community members live better by hearing their best and continues to make a difference.

Here’s an excerpt from Jennifer’s 40 Under Forty profile in BizWest:

Through her experience in [ASL] class and getting to know the local hearing-impaired community, she became passionate about human connections and communication. She decided to study speech, language, and hearing science in college, which required her to practice hearing evaluations. She tested her parents, who both showed signs of hearing loss that could be improved with the use of hearing aids.

La Borde is proud to be co-owner of the longest-serving, most awarded hearing-care practice in Boulder County, with a team that takes pride in exceptional customer service. Founded in 1963, Family Hearing has locations in Boulder, Broomfield and Lafayette.

Better Hearing & Speech Month Shout-Out

With Better Hearing & Speech Month celebrated in May, it’s a great time to promote the many benefits of addressing hearing loss. Dr. Hearne did just that, breaking down some of the reasons to support hearing health in her Our Broomfield magazine interview for the publication’s May edition (see page 16).

Approximately one out of every five people worldwide has some form of hearing loss, per research estimates. It’s one of the most common chronic physical conditions and — as Dr. Hearne pointed out — can go hand in hand with other serious medical issues such as dementia.

Dr. Hearne had some timely advice for readers to keep in mind. Check out this passage from the article:

I asked Dr. Hearne what she wanted to make sure our readers understand about hearing care and she said she can’t emphasize enough how important it is to get your hearing checked every year. There are several treatable reasons for hearing loss, but if you need a hearing aid they are smaller and clearer now than ever before. A main reason for hearing loss is noise exposure, so if you are around machinery, loud concerts or firearms, wear proper ear protection to help keep your ears safe!
