A Grandson’s Gift: The Charging Stand That’s Making Life Easier for His Grandma (and Maybe You Too)

At our practice, we often say that hearing care is about so much more than devices — it’s about connection. That’s why I’m honored to share how my nephew used his creativity to make his loved one’s hearing devices easier for her to use.

Trenton is a talented, creative young man who loves solving problems, especially when it means helping the people he cares about. Recently, he put his talents to work to make life a little easier for someone very special to him: his grandma.

Trenton’s grandma wears Widex Smart RIC hearing devices and, like many of our patients, she loves the convenience of the travel charger that comes with them. But she was used to her old desktop charging stand — the kind that always stood upright — rather than the newer pocket-style charger that lays flat. At the end of a long day, all she wanted was to be able to drop her devices into the charger without having to think about it.

Trenton noticed his grandma’s frustration. He also overheard his aunt (that’s me!) mention that many patients share the same struggle and that it would be wonderful to have a solution to make charging easier. Instead of simply observing, Trenton decided to take action. Using his skills in 3D design and printing, he created a custom charging stand that holds the Widex travel charger at just the right angle. The stand keeps the ports upright and ready to receive the hearing devices, so placing them in the charger is simple and effortless.

The result? A sturdy, thoughtfully designed stand that makes nightly charging a breeze — and, most importantly, brought a huge smile to his grandma’s face. Trenton’s charging stand design has now been refined and is available for others who might find placing their hearing aids in the charger tricky. Whether you or someone you love struggles with dexterity, vision, or simply wants a smoother nightly routine, this charging stand could be the perfect solution.

We’re so proud of Trenton — not just for his creativity, but for the kindness and love that inspired it. As his aunt, it means so much to see him use his talents to help his grandma stay connected. His story is a beautiful reminder that sometimes, the most meaningful solutions come straight from the heart.
