Noise is one of the ‘mortal enemies’ of hearing clearly, or so it would seem. But there’s evidence from several sciences that indicates that sometimes noise can play a helpful role. Even audiologists are often surprised as I found out in my class of doctoral students in “Signals, Systems, and Speech Perception.”
